A draft law on prison terms for visiting the Crimea through the territory of Russia was submitted for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada. The document is published on the parliament's website.
The authors of the initiative were Arthur Gerasimov, deputy from the "Petro Poroshenko Bloc" and Irina Gerashchenko, the president's representative in the parliament.
According to their idea, three years of prison should threaten citizens for visiting the Crimea, bypassing the checkpoints organized by Ukraine. When re-crossing the border in such ways, it is proposed to imprison for a period of three to five years.
Notably, Ukraine demands that Russians enter the Crimea through the Novoalekseyevka checkpoint, and not fly "directly to Simferopol, for example, from Moscow."
"The same is done by some foreigners, including politicians, although they need to enter Ukraine and apply for permission to visit the Crimea," the source said.
The source, close to the Ukrainian security structures, suggested that the foreigners who visited the Crimea earlier would also fall under the bill.
