On August 24, the Head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the DPR Armed Forces Alexander Zakharchenko congratulated the servicemen of the Legion Detachment for carrying out special rescue operations of exceptional risk under the DPR Ministry for Emergency Situations on the second anniversary of the unit's founding.
The Head of the Republic began his congratulations by noting a number of the most successful operations conducted by the servicemen of the Legion unit, which became crucial in the liberation of the cities of Donbass from the Ukrainian forces.
"Today I recollected the year 2014: battles in Shakhtyorsk and Snezhnoye, those for Ilovaysk, Dmitriyevka, Debaltsevo and Uglegorsk. I recollected how we stormed buildings, shared a can of tinned meat.... I recollected how cold it was outside Debaltsevo, how we warmed ourselves by the fire, how we fought together.
Fellows, I'll say as it is: I'm proud to have met all of you in my life. You are real heroes and it's a great joy and great pride to stand next to each of you, be it peacetime, or a battle!" Alexander Zakharchenko said.
The Head of State said that, in fact, the Legion had been founded earlier than two years ago.
"Today, the Legion marks the 2nd anniversary, but, in fact, it is a wrong date, because the motto of your squad is “There is no bond more sacred than camaraderie." This motto has been preserved since the times of the Oplot Donbassa unit, when we were just embarking our cause," the DPR Head emphasised.
At the end of his address to the servicemen, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the DPR said: "Our common task is to let our citizens see the peaceful sky and prevent people’s deaths at the hands of the Ukrainian military. This is exactly the real job – to defend the Motherland. We all love our land, and I am sure that each of us is ready to die for it!"
